2024-Guruvayoor,Kerala
The modern tropical home was designed on a site relatively close to Guruvayoor town. With subtle modern touches such as the stone-clad exterior wall and roof tiles, the house aims to preserve the traditional appearance of a Kerala home. The plan spreads across two floors and five bedrooms with ample gathering spaces. Although the house occupies much of the plot, the design prioritizes integrating landscape elements, both hard and soft, thereby creating a scenic, airy and spacious living environment within an urban context. The ground floor follows an open plan with a double height living room that is separated by a statement staircase from the dining room. The corridor above overlooks the living room and provides a visual connection to all public spaces. The majority of the house has bare minimal finishes juxtaposed with the warmth and texture of wood details in cabinets and ceilings. The custom furniture pieces in the family living and living room enhance a trend of comfortable relaxed forms adding a touch of sophistication to the interiors. The round coffee table, sculptural arm chairs and arched mirrors in bedrooms eases the sharp corners adding to the design’s flow. Other notable interior elements such as the pendant light over the dining table, metal artworks and paintings, décor on pedestals, and green-framed glass windows contribute to the home’s timeless character. The bedrooms follow a simple layout featuring built-in wardrobes and large windows bringing natural light that keeps it airy and fresh. The architecture and design of this residence do not reflect the influence of several generations, however, the carefully selected interior elements play a significant role in keeping it grounded and timeless with modern comfort.
