THALAPPALAM BANK

Project completion: 2016 | Location: Thalappalam

The brief called for the redesigning of a cooperative bank in a new site accommodating all the functions that were carried out previously. It also included the requirement for additional spaces including conference halls, farmer’s meeting room and bring in a feeling of newness in the everyday life of the people associated with the corporation.

While creating a contemporary work environment, the design called for an open plan that provides wide visibility to all important spaces in the bank. The idea was to reflect the transparency and care the organization provides to all its customers. To maintain a degree of privacy for required spaces like meeting rooms, glazed partitions are used to separate them from the others.

Located in a small town, the interiors called for a relaxed atmosphere that is achieved through a material palette that is predominantly white integrated with wood finish and a touch of green.

The exterior façade is designed as recessed planes that protect from the harsh rays of the sun. The flat roof form is perceived as floating above the white walls. The building is also an example of environmental friendly approach in design, making room for solar systems for general functioning and rain water harvesting.
