Project completion: 2022 | Location: Puthenchira
The project reiterates the simplicity of every design intervention and produces a scheme to match the client’s desire. A low-height compound wall and the entrance gate open avenues for getting a short glimpse of the house from far that instigates a curious spirit as the cobbled stones extend beyond. A place to gather, cook, own, sleep, and experience as a family or as an individual were thoughts that catalyzed the design. Having said that, the common areas are tied to the center and around the concept of our traditional courtyard. Natural light sweeps inside through generous openings and a skylight. The use of local materials and the warmth of an elevation that tells a story from the past are juxtaposed with contemporary interiors. A repetitive detail is integrated with elements as noted from the entrance gate, feature wall, partition screen, and other visible sophisticated essentials of the home. The primary entrance is by the foyer, with a full-height stone cladded wall behind which the car porch lies out of sight. A large window with fixed & openable glass panels marks the living space providing endless views to the outside to enjoy the green and the rain. The white walls dominate the timeless color palette with subtle accents that unifies the project. As you move through the open floor plan, the white walls are filled partially with artwork and photographs depicting the family story. A continuous wood kitchen detail with double-loaded linear cabinets, island range hood & cooktop, and breakfast corner behind family living separated by screen allows easy flow through the space visually. The courtyard that connects the formal living, dining, and family living, also has a flexible function as a children’s play area. The landscape within ushers to make fresh air, cool temperature, and a touch of outside. Full-height see-through partitions in wood planks create a modern feature that brings warmth to the design composition and makes the family environment comfortable by connecting visually. The string of thoughts that combine the plan is focused on connecting the space effectively with immediate surroundings and this is achieved by full-height windows not only in the living spaces but also in the bedrooms and the kitchen. The design is personified by keeping the existing landscape on site
