An office becomes an extension of one’s daily space hence, a design that establishes a dialogue between the users is inititated. In addition to the existing godown for cardamom exporters, an everyday workplace is planned with prominence on green penetration to the interiors. Integrating the principles of the traditional architecture of Kerala into a contemporary shell, all the primary spaces are designed around the conventional ‘Courtyard. The luxury of having a green strip along with the fern-filled courtyard in front makes the workspace relaxing while transparency in the interiors reveals its openness. Inspired by the color and features of the cardamom produce, the interiors are detailed using metal sculptures and fittings in the form of the crop. The partition goes hand in hand with the continuous flow of green hues and the foliage. The materiality of the space ,which is mainly monochrome with subtle contrasts of grey and green ,compliments the tone of the produce. A lighting fixture customized to fit in the courtyard falls low from the ceiling adding character to the central void. The external facade, becoming an extension of the lush green setting and high hills, calls for niches that unfold into green spaces.
