THE LINEAR HOUSE

PROJECT COMPLETION: 2016 | LOCATION: MUVATTUPUZHA

Here’s another project completed recently keeping the prevalent landscape intact. The ideation remains simple while exemplifying the theme of living around nature. The open plan flows incessantly through the public spaces with the required degree of seclusion for private spaces. The project signifies the amalgamation of rich and unique expressions incorporated using a minimal scale. One such attention grabber is the perforated screen at the entrance that fogs the concept of creating an open, yet closed environment. Considering, the family room as the most used space in any residence, the same has been deliberately developed to hold those elements that transforms into the favourite spot while enjoying green, natural light and sky sights from both sides. The exterior façade is developed by folding and unfolding walls which allow the green to seep into the interiors. Minimizing the extent of wall area, the façade is defined by alternating treatment of opaque and transparent bits. Short verandahs that open out from the living space bridges the inside to outside. The niceties of the interior embrace subtle lines that are enhanced by using wood and beige hues. A segment of the perforated screen detail is brought into the interiors and used as a characteristic element in all wood works. The house is intended to illustrate sandstone clads, tiled roofs and contrasting white walls on a green canvas. The concept of residential design is expanding its limits when a house that is immersed in green also accommodates a swimming pool, open bathroom, mini bar and home theatre on the second level.
